In an era where many organizations and the public are increasingly prioritizing energy conservation and environmental sustainability, Solar PPM provides an essential guide to the concept of selling surplus solar energy back to the national grid in Thailand.
What is “Selling Electricity Back to the Grid”?
Selling electricity back to the grid refers to generating power from clean energy sources, such as solar PV systems, and supplying the excess energy back to the public utility system. This allows system owners to generate income from the electricity they produce.
Advantages of Selling Solar Power to the Grid:
- Supplemental Income: It creates a revenue stream by converting surplus energy into financial returns.
- Promotion of Clean Energy: Generating power from renewable sources encourages sustainable energy consumption and reduces environmental impact.
Procedures for Selling Solar Power in Thailand:
To participate in this program, system owners must coordinate with the relevant electricity authorities—either the Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA) or the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA)—to apply for a formal power purchase agreement. Currently, the feed-in tariff (the rate at which the government buys back electricity) is set at 2.20 Baht per unit (kWh).
