Solar Panel Oversupply: A New Trend in Solar Fencing?
With the current oversupply of solar panels leading to significantly lower prices, a new trend has emerged where individuals are repurposing them as fences. In Europe—specifically in the Netherlands and Germany—solar panels imported from China are being utilized as fencing materials instead of traditional options.
The primary driver behind this phenomenon is the sharp decline in solar panel costs. This is a result of Chinese manufacturers oversupplying the market, with nearly 80% of global solar panel production originating from China. This trend is now gaining traction in the United Kingdom, North America, and Australia.
The prevailing sentiment among consumers is: “Why build a traditional fence when solar panels are now a more cost-effective alternative?”
The dominance of Chinese solar panels has created a global supply glut, making it increasingly difficult for manufacturers in other regions—including the United States, Europe, and even Thailand—to remain competitive. Currently, Solar Energy, Electric Vehicles (EVs), and Lithium-ion Batteries represent the three “New Pillars” of industry supported by the Chinese government to drive its national economy.
